So I contributed an extra $500 to my RRSP - my monthly amount was removed March 1 and I just got a receipt in the mail for the 2012 tax year (first 60 days of 2013). Didn't even think of it before that the deduction comes out on the 1st and would therefore be counted in the first 60 days.
My question is what are the options now:
a) Do I need to even state on my tax return this year that I contributed this amount or can I just enter this money on next year's taxes (and make sure I don't go over my limit in the meanwhile)
OR
b) Do I enter it as one of the "January to March 1, 2013 contributions" and then just list my limit, not the limit amount + 500 it in this section: RRSP deduction to use (leave blank to use all your contributions as a deduction)?
I think the answer is "a" but I'd love a second opinion!
I'm using ufile FTR.
Thanks!
