EQ Bank -- Having A Miserable Day ???

$

0
I have tried half-a-dozen times to log in to my EQ bank account...

No luck -- can't get through...

I'm of the belief that there is a huge run on money at EQ today...

Money is being moved out of EQ to the new Simplii with their 3% rate...

Would you agree with my theory??

I like EQ -- they are a good little bank...

I hope they survive this onslaught...

Anyone else in touch with EQ today and if so what where your results???

Simplii charge interest on cheque payment (no nsf)

Simplii charged interest in my pcfinancial account when I transferred my balance during the thanksgiving week end.

I photo deposited the cheque in Tangerine on October 5 at 23:50 EST.

Here's the transaction log.

-
I don't know if it's the new policy at simplii, but it seems they charge interest on the money the date you deposit at the other bank if you don't have the fund by that date in your chequing account. In my case, around 4 days at 19% interest.
I won't be doing anymore a transfer via cheque to tangerine when the money is not in the chequing account. The double interest during the weekend is just not worth it.

I called them this morning and they accepted to reverse the charge as a goodwill gesture.

Just to warn other RFD that may be doing the same thing.

CIBC Branch Manager Scam me

$

Long story short.

There's a financial representative that I trust with my finances. She got promoted in the middle of doing my mortgage which included a PLC.

When she passed the file to the manager. They were in the process of disbursing money for my mortgage which included the PLC. It was successful.

The thing is she manager couldn't find my signature card which was lost or stolen. She wants me to sign another one. I didn't trust her and refused.

She emailed the person that was dealing with my mortgage saying I said that I "never agreed to the PLC" that scared her to tell me to sign it. And that if I didn't the manager will contact her manager because it's like a fake application.

I never said I never agreed to the PLC but didn't want it anyways but since the advisor recommended it, I took it. But now that she's gone. I don't trust the branch manager so I ain't signing anything with her.

I did sign it later to avoid trouble for her but found out later that the branch manager used that tactic.

Is there a way I can report or complain about the manager? Because they said the complain will go back to them which is stupid because they ain't going to report themselves!

Simplii Financial and mint.com

Hi, has anyone using mint.com had success switching from PC Financial to Simplii? It looks like it's still not supported (unless I'm doing something wrong).

I inquired about adding Simplii to the supported financial institutions, and they require multiple requests in order for it to be escalated:
"I will pass it along to our data provider for consideration if/when we receive at least four other requests from other users who wish to add this bank (we need a minimum of five requests before we can escalate the request)."

Hopefully if others can also request that Simplii be added to mint.com as well they will do so promptly. Thanks!

Tangerine CSR left NOTES on my Account when I DECLINED their 2 % RETENTION offer !

$

When I declined the crappy 2 % for 90 days retention offer from Tangerine.

EQ is 2.3 % , Simplii is 3 % , Wealthone bank is 2.5 % , Some credit unions are also 2.5 %, who the hell is going to accept a crappy 2 % retention offer from Tangerine that too after lot of begging and waiting ?

The Tangerine CSR left NOTES on my account that I am declining the offer and on so and so date this offer was made to me and I refused it.

This was confirmed by a Second CSR who told me that there are NOTES on my account. God knows what else the first CSR wrote on my account. The second CSR only told me the above thing.

I am afraid this might affect my chances of getting the January 5, 2018 - Tangerine lottery rate promo offer. Hopefully not, but you never know.

So DON'T accept or decline their 2 % or 1.6 % retention offer. Just say nothing. As they DO leave NOTES on your account, when you DECLINE their retention offer. This might negatively affect your future offers from them or ANY future negotiations or dealings with them, when you call in .

I thought it was a myth that they leave notes on your account for simple things like declining an interest rate offer. I guess, I was wrong and found out the hard way.

Is a RUN on Tangerine Bank & EQ Bank taking place, due to Simplii - 3 % rate ?

Or are people too lazy and don't care and happy with crappy rates with Tangerine.

Lot of status quo and people are just happy to let things be.

I bet besides the few RFD'ers who are not even a tiny fraction of Tangerine's 2 million customers, the general public doesn't care about transferring money out of Tangerine.

HST & Ontario Trillium Benefit - Am I cheating the system ?

$

I am currently living abroad. Mostly chilling & sight seeing. I am NOT working abroad or earning ANY income abroad.

I left Canada on Feb 1 , 2017 . So almost 9 months I am out of the country. I am not planning to come back till Januray, 2018. So pretty much the whole 2017, except for Jan 2017 I am out of the country.

So pretty much the whole of 2017, I am out of Canada. I have NO income in Canada either, but I have a house, a bank account, Drivers License, Credit cards and health card in Canada.

So when I file my Canadian taxes for 2017, will I be eligible for the monthly Ontario Trillium Benefit and quarterly HST benefit, since my income in Canada and abroad will be NIL.

Should I claim that and am I still eligible for it ? Even though I was & will be out of the country for 11 months in 2017.

Do you have to be physically present in Canada in 2017 to collect the OTB monthly payments and HST qtryl payments in 2018, which are based on your 2017 income ?

I do have significant ties to Canada like a house, bank account, etc although almost the whole year, I was out.

OHIP card question ? Will they know I was travelling abroad ? 3 month waiting period question

$
0
0
I left Canada on February 1, 2017 . The whole year I have been physically out of Canada, except for January, 2017.

I will be coming back in Januray, 2018. My OHIP card is still valid for another 3 years or so, its not expired or anything.

If you leave the province of ON for a long time, and then come back, you have to inform OHIP and there is a 3 month waiting period before your health coverage becomes active again.

Will OHIP find out, that I was abroad ? My OHIP card wasn't scanned or anything at the airport, when I left. Only my Canadian passport was.

Does CBSA or anyone informs OHIP automatically when you leave Canada ? I don't think their data bases are connected for privacy reasons.

What if I immediately visit a doctor on my return to Canada, and he swipes my OHIP, will the data base tell him, I was abroad for the past 11 months, hence I have to wait 3 months before my OHIP becomes active again.

Hiring a "cleaning lady" - employee or contractor?

$
0
0
I found a cleaning person through a facebook recommendation. She charges $20/hr and we agreed on a day of the week she will clean. She works for five hours every two weeks. She is on ODSP and I have requested receipts as I can claim her services as homecare on my taxes as I have a disability and claim the disability tax credit.

My concern is, can she claim she is an employee of mine? I do not want to be stuck filing cpp, ei and taxes on her behalf. She does not file WSIB in all likelihood as she does not make enough for it to be worthwhile for her to pay (arguably everyone should pay WSIB but that's another discussion).

Since I require receipts from her, I have checked with the CRA and know what CRA requires, but she also needs a receipt from me for her worker (ODSP worker) and a letter stating she has been "hired by me for biweekly cleaning and will be paid $100 biweekly". I'm not comfortable with the word hired as to me it implies I have hired her as an employee, which is not the case as she cleans for others and sets her hourly rate and also, with agreement from me, sets the days she works. She also provides all her own supplies.

Should I word the receipts in a particular way so it's clear she is not an employee hired directly by me?

Marriott Rewards More - Points For Shopping

$

https://more.marriottrewards.com

1000 Marriott Points for first purchase of $25 or more.

Interesting new way of earning Marriott points for those who collect them or SPG points.

Much like Ebates or GCR, instead of cash Marriott will give you points for shopping at various online retailers via their browser extension or portal.

The link below is a FAQ regarding how the program works.

https://more.marriottrewards.com/faqs

There are limited stores to shop from at this point however the notable ones include Amazon, Marks, Roots, Hudson's Bay, Best Buy, Indigo. Each store has an up to point value and each store varies in the amount of points per $. You receive more if you pay via a Marriott credit card or have elite status.

I did try out a transaction to get the 1000 point bonus for first $25 transaction and it has successfully posted immediately along with the points for the actual purchase which was quite impressive. You have to download the browser extension first, I use Chrome. Sign into your Marriott account via the above shopping portal and basically click to the store of your choice. The browser extension will pop up when you visit the store and you proceed to buy as normal. On final check out you have the option to actually use some of your points at a terrible value for the purchase or you can use none and earn points.

My transaction was done at Amazon for the amount of roughly $29 plus tax. I received 4 pts/ $1 (114 pts) plus 1pt/$1 (29pts) for being a gold elite member. 1000 bonus points were added into the transaction. Each have their own separate entry on the Marriott activity page and count as qualifying activity for those who need to keep their account active. Even works on gift card purchases.

Not a bad deal if you collect points from either Marriott or SPG. 4pts/$1 or 1.33 SPG points after conversion for Amazon purchases is pretty good. Works out to be a 4% return at current valuations, more for elite members. A Marriott minimum hotel redemption is 10000 points and SPG is 3000 points (9000 Marriott converted) depending on the property and would require $2250 - $2500 in Amazon purchase for a free hotel night to give you an example at value.

The points guy https://thepointsguy.com/2017/10/marrio ... re-portal/ has a write up if you want his take.

Great to have another option at earning some value when online shopping.

Do capital gains contribute to TFSA over contribution?

$
0
0
In 2017 the total contribution limit is 52,000 for a TFSA

Say in theory, a person who has never owned a TFSA before open an investment TFSA accout at a major bank, then contributes $52,000 into the TFSA from their chequing account.

Then they invest the entire amount of $52,000 by purchasing stock in Nov-01-2017 and that stock goes up in value to $75,000 shortly after. $23,000 captial gain.

If the stock is sold for $75,000 on Dec-01-2017 and the money is kept in the TFSA and NOT withdrawn by Jan-01-2018, does that mean that the capital gains causes a over contribution of $23,000 ($75,000 - $52,000)?

If so, is the only way avoid that over contribution is to remove the $23,000 by the end of Dec-31-2017 (with a balance of $52,000 remaining in the account)?

This is a bit confusing and might be over thinking this.

Hello,
I am working with this 55 years old male (canadian citizen) who claims that he has not done income tax since 2007.

What is the consequence of not filing income tax for 10 years?
Also, he says he may have filed income tax here and there (some years between 2007 and now). What is the consequence of double-filing?

Need help with a "lost deposit" at ABM :(

Guys - so I just logged into my Simplii account to look into the new hot promo and noticed my account was negative.

I made a deposit in September and of course I either threw out or lost the receipt (I always take one after a deposit), and I transferred the amount a few days later.

Now on my account it said that the deposit was "invalid" WTF???

What do I do lol

Like it literally shows $450 deposited via ABM the day I made the deposit and my balance being $550, on Friday. On Tuesday I initiated a transfer to my Tangerine account for the $450 and it went through.

My PCF balance is $100 on Tues. Then on Thurs there's a "TRANSFER CURRENT TO G/L ABM DEP ADJ DEP MISS/INVALID" message beside another $450 "funds out" and then my balance goes to -$350...

They're asking that I pay them back $450 otherwise my balance goes to collection - but like, WTF is going on?

Is it possible to "correct" an r9 on a Credit score?

$
0
0
I need help.
I just found out that I have a good credit rating aside from an r9 that occurred in Jan 2017. I had upgraded my cell phone with Bell and unknowingly, they changed my account number. So for 3 months I was receiving my bills and paying them. After the third month I received a letter from Bell saying that my account had gone to collections. Turns out I was paying to the old account number. I called Bell, told them what happened and they moved the payments from my old account to my new one and that was it. My phone never got disconnected and I had no idea that the account had actually gone to collections. I can prove I was making the payments and Bell has a record of what happened.
I'm wondering if there's a way to get Bell to retract this from my credit rating or something...
My boyfriend and I just bought a house and now my name cannot be on the mortgage because of this r9.
Any advice would be appreciated.

How do I get an account closed on my credit reports?

$
0

I just took a look at my TransUnion credit report and there are a number of cerdit cards that show open even though they were closed years ago.

TransUnion tells me the card issues has to report the account closed, but..

One of the cards is Zellers - they no longer exist, so obviously the card issues can't do anything.

The others are CIBC which of course still exists but CIBC needs a CC number to do anything and these accounts are back from the 90's where I had totally different CC accounts.

Other than the question in the title - two others come to mind:

1. Do old accounts never ever drop off the credit report?
..and if so - after how many years?

2. Do open accounts, with no balance of course, affect my credit score?
