I have spent hours reading many related threads but am still unclear about how to go about this.
I get paid in USD. Thus far I have received a wire transfer and been mailed a physical cheque. Neither is ideal.
The employer is new to North America and can offer little advice so it is up to me to figure it out.
The wire transfer of $1250 ended up being $1200 when all was said and done. No good. The cheque was better other than late and I only lost $30 on the exchange at the bank.
I have a USD bank account with CIBC which it turns out is basically useless. Until I get going I do not have the cash flow to let it sit there and wait for a favourable exchange. They also hold the cheque for up to 30 days.
From what I gather the solution may be PayPal (I do have an account which has not been used in years), something like MoneyCorp or possibly opening a US account with a US bank (which looks like a pita).
Help!! Any advice on how to make this as painless and as inexpensive as possible would be greatly appreciated.
