Liability for Fraudulent Credit Card Charges - Is there a time limit to report fraud?

Hey Guys I have a big problem.

I have a credit card that I put away and haven't used for a year. I have been in possession of the physical card the entire time and still have it.
I did not know that fraudulent transactions were occurring throughout that year. My statements were paperless and since I knew I wasn't using the card, I didn't check and forgot the password to my online bill.

Now I get late payment bills for this credit card and I owe them $$$ thousands of dollars- all fraudulent charges. Mostly online, from Miami, NY and even some ones from Toronto.
I am in Vancouver.

I haven't been able to contact the bank in person (holiday in BC.) I did call in to report.

My biggest concern: Is there a time limit for me to report this fraud before I am held liable for the entire amount ? (plus interest.)
It's basically been 1 year since the fraud started.

Cliff Notes: I have fraudulent charges on my card 1 year old. I recently reported them. I physically have the credit card still- it wasn't lost or stolen. Am I liable for the charges because I didn't report in a timely manner?

To get any trolling over with: Yes, I am very stupid for not checking my statements. Yeah, I should have cancelled the card if I wasn't using it? Ah huh, I'm an idiot for not ensuring my monthly statements were reviewed.
