I've been using a CAA MasterCard for a very long time and I have been satisfied with the basic 1% rewards until now.
Yesterday, I went into my local CAA office to do what I have done every year or so which is to cash in some of my accumulated CAA$ into US travellers cheques only to find out that their policies changed last year. Now I can only redeem my dollars for gift certificates at a narrow selection of stores or use it for travel through their travel agency or purchases at their boutique. It will also pay for my CAA membership but I already have $1,000 in CAA dollars accumulated so I don't think I need more.
These are restrictions that others may have been aware of but are new to me.
I really prefer a no annual fee card. Also, I am currently in the market for travel medical insurance so if I can fold that need into the card's benefits so much the better. So I started looking at options in the various threads here but the best threads are very long and many of the stickies seem to stop around 2 years ago.
So I just want to validate what I have pretty much decided because there was a lot of information for me to process.
We have a well established good credit rating. We spend just over $1,000 a month on our CAA MasterCard and pay up in full every month. Our household income is above $100,000 but that may change as we are approaching retirement age and I work for myself and can more or less call my own work schedule.
It appears to me that my best option would be the Aspire Cash World MasterCard. Unless I am misunderstanding, it includes some travel medical insurance even if you're over 65 and pays 1.5% after the annual bonus.
Does this make sense?
