Question about income tax and capital gains

I have non-registered mutual funds that give out dividends every 3 months and at the end of the year. Those dividends get reinvested back into my funds automatically. I just have a question about how to file it in my income tax. I was wondering for income tax, do i count those dividends that was reinvested as capital gains yearly? Because someone told me that I don't file it until I actually redeem it and just calculate the difference from my initial investment amount. I haven't redeem it yet. Can anyone help me?
