I have free Transunion credit monitoring from Capital One.

Yesterday, a credit inquiry was made by 'HB General Servicing'. I can't find anything online about this company.

What should I do?

Rescue Paypal USD

Hey,

I have an issue with Paypal, I have a Paypal.com account, it even says its a paypal us site certificiate.... however to them they say because I'm Canadian the account is now Canadian. (Even though its been signed up on paypal.com us since inception).

Anyways, I don't want to convert the cash, it's in USD for a reason, and I wanted to withdraw it as such to my Scotia USD account. Which the operator after an hr long wait told me they cannot do anything because it's listed as a Canadian account.

So my question is... how do I withdraw this without having it converted? Or with as minimal loss as possible.

She advised me to find a friend in the US to send the money to and this person can send the money via their bank account and then to me however they choose.... I don't trust anyone I know in the US with the kind of money.... so I don't want to do this period. She also states, that if I attempt to add a US bank account (doing that whole PO box thing) that paypal will detect and potentially ban my account.

does CRA ever lose tax returns?

$

I'm probably premature in this... my accountant sent in my tax return via courier on Friday March 17 and they received confirmation from the courier company that the delivery was successful. Please don't ask why I don't Netfile. I prefer to file my taxes manually.
To date, My Account shows my tax return as not being received (ie). not entered in their system
In the past, I would send in my tax return in April and CRA would enter it in their system within a week's time.

Of course, the one year that I'm expecting a refund, it's taking longer.
When I called CRA, they gave me the usual 'it takes 4-6 weeks to process manually filed returns'. If it still shows as not received after 4 weeks, then to re-submit my return and indicate it's a duplicate.
Anyone else experience this?

Financial Accountability Partner

My friend and I have decided to become financial accountability partners and our first meeting is tomorrow (or today as it is midnight here)

I was wondering if any of you have thoughts regarding what we should be doing in our accountability--such as sharing short and long term goals. If we have stayed on track with our budget... should there be penalties?

Just thought I would reach out to see if others had some ideas to help us start this thing

Thanks.

Hi,

This is the first year I've had my refund via direct deposit rather than getting sent a cheque, along with the assessment details. Would they still send the assessment via mail? It has useful info especially regarding next years RRSP limit.

Thanks

i registered a company federal+provincially to get a contract job but unfortunately I didnt get the offer due to some reason in the end, then I moved for a permanent job and I am still doing that permanent job.

I did open a bank account for this company but then closed after a few days as we were not proceeding with the contract, if the income and loss of company was zero I dont have complicated things to look into. Is there any free software avaliable using which I can file incorporation tax free of cost?

tax questions - credit card interest etc

$

Hi guys, I have some tax questions.

1. Is interest we paid tax deductible? I refer to credit card interest specifically, but I wonder what other interest I may come up with. Oh also student loans etc.
2. Under the Medical section there's a note saying give dates and descriptions. Do I really have to give the date of every single chiropractic visit? There's probably 20.
3. If I dont have to break it down - I bought medication as well. Do they go in the same section? I assume I create a new line for this, rather than adding all the medical expenses in the same line?
4. If I have a figure like $87.90 would I enter $88 or $87 or the full $87.90?
5. I'm a CPA (and yet am not that familiar with personal taxes, go figure). Under Annual Dues do I enter the amount before tax or after tax? There's 2 boxes underneath 'Membership Dues'. The first is asking if I wish to claim the GST/HST rebate (GST-370), and the next box is asking the amount including GST/HST that is eligible for GST/HST rebate. What do I put into these boxes?

Thanks guys!

I am wondering if it is possible to have a loan be paid from 2 accounts.

For example a mortgage payment of 2k a month, where they take 1k from one person and 1k from another?

If not is there a way to automatic a transfer from 1 account to other account( different banks )prior.....was thinking something like a PAD, but then funds can take anywhere from 1-3 business days to transfer prior.

Current setup is having person EMT funds day before, sometimes forgets .

Any suggestions?

last year, i made a mistake in my wife's tax returns as i used auto fill and it had incorrect numbers that i missed. so last nov CRA reassessmeed my wife and mine and i had to pay a stiff tax + interest. last week, i got another reassessment as the last reassessment that cra did did not factor in the income splitting properly as part of thier reassessment. now i have to pay another stiff tax + interest. i can take responsiblity for hte first reassessment as it was my negligence.
why do i have to pay for cra's negligence?
what can i do in this case?

Is Physical Copies Still Necessary To Keep For Taxes?

$

Hi

I am wondering do we have to keep physically copies of all our tax stuff(T4s, T5s,medical receipts)? Most of this stuff is now given digitally anyways and the rest I could just scan and keep stored on my pc.

Is there any official word from the CRA saying we have to keep physical copies?

Capital gains tax on rental property that was a principal residence

$

My brother has an apartment unit that he lived in for 10 years. He moved into a new building last year which became his new principal resident and rented out the old apart. unit.

He's considering selling the apartment unit later this year and knows that he will incur capital gains tax. The question is how would he figure out the amount of the tax that he has to pay? Does he needs to somehow justify how much the place has appreciated in that one year it was rented out?

Any help is much appreciated

Credit Score Plummets, WTH

six months ago, my credit score was 830.
two months ago, my credit score was 835.
last month, it was 840.

this month, it's 833!

what's up with that?

all bills ALWAYS paid on time, and IN FULL. i'm kind of freaking out now, wondering how this could have happened, or if i indeed forgot (and still have not paid) a bill? i think i'm a bit late paying MSP though? but that's not tied to a credit rating, is it? the only thing really different is that i applied for a mortgage with HSBC (after getting pre-approved by RBC and Scotia) -- would that have factored in anyway?

Alterna vs EQ Bank - opinions ?

$

Hello,

I'm looking to open an account (non-TFSA), and would appreciate if anyone can shed some feedback or experiences on these banks

The interest rate is 1.95/2.00 respectively, so it's a small difference and their both CDIC insured, so I'm more interested in things like, ease of transfers, web interface, and customer service?

My inclination is to choose Alterna, only cause they seem to have been around longer, and with EQ, I'm always a bit fearful they might get hacked like People Trust fiasco a few years back...

Thanks!

Unbelievable Ufile 2016 BUGS/ERROR!!!!

$

This is totally unacceptable, I found some errors where everytime I load the file, the t4 entries either disappeared or somehow duplicated into another t4 subcategories thereby making it looks like I have duplicate incomes. All this errors reduces the refund and it varies by thousands. This means the software have a problem in data integrity and I have to recheck all the entries again every time even on other forms/categories to make sure they are accurate..

wut is going on with ufile...
