no more mortgage-now LOC-MBNA MasterCard for rest?

$
0
0
Hello.
So we did it.
We got rid of our RBC mortgage!
We cut back, saved and hit it with everything we had.
We put the balance $35000 on our RBC LOC @ 3.2%.
That is costing us $93.33/mo to carry.
We will be aggressive paying this off.

What about this though?
Apply for the MBNA Platinum Plus® MasterCard® via RFD and earn $70.
Then take whatever the credit limit is (say $10,000) and move that off the card, into my bank account, then towards the LOC.
As I understand it that will cost me 1% of the say $10,000. So $100 fee.
Then we get it at 0% for 12 months.

Is this correct? Seems too good to be true.

We have excellent credit.

Thank you!

O9 removal from credit report?

I need some help. Here's the history:
I had an account with Rogers for a rocket stick while I was in university. All other household services were also with rogers. I separated from my exhusband in December of 2012. I called rogers prior to that to set up all new household services for my new house and had my cell and rocket stick transferred to my new address. All was fine. Until September 2013 when I called to cancel the rocket stick service as I was past the 2 year contract and was finished school so no longer needed the service. I cancelled it by phone.
Somehow the service was never cancelled and Rogers began sending the monthly bill just for the rocket stick to my prior address. (Which I had no access to and I was not aware of these bills being sent there - my ex is a long haul trucker and rarely home). The bill for all other services were mailed to my current address.
June 2014 my ex husband brings me a letter that was mailed to his address (my prior address). I opened it and it stated I was 7 months behind in my monthly charges for my rocket stick. I immediately called the number on the letter. The man I spoke to implied he was from Rogers (I know now he was not - he was from Total Credit Recovery). After explaining I cancelled the service 7 months ago and had received no contact from Rogers about the rocket stick since then, he told me I had 2 choices: dispute it by calling a different number and possibly doing more damage as a dispute would take time or pay it off now and it won't affect my credit rating with the credit bureaus. I took the second option since it wasn't a large amount of money. At the time I was not well educated in how credit ratings worked and assumed he was giving me accurate info. Paid over the phone by credit card.
I pulled my credit report several months ago to take a look at it. There's an O9 from Rogers communications regarding the rocket stick account. All other services with Rogers is listed under a different entry with a different account and payment history is perfect.
Called Rogers. Went through the info with 2 different people before being transferred to a manager. The manager said he understood the error and was submitting a request to another department to have the entire account history removed from my credit bureau history. I was given a reference number and told to call back in a week to get the final decision.
Called today. Denied.
Spoke to another manager who said there is nothing they can do. They cannot have the account removed by the credit bureaus because that's illegal.

Is this info accurate?
Is there anything else I can do?

Car Loan Brokers? Where to get the best price?

$

I am looking for an auto loan for a used car, a 2014 Porsche. It is from a dealer but I wanted to check out my financing options independently also. I have very good credit and will be putting 1/3 of the purchase price down and financing the rest.

Googling brought me to several sites, i.e. loandoctor.ca where it looks like they can source financing from many institutions. Are these places legitimate and what do I have to lose by filling out an application, besides a credit check? Any options other than just asking the bank where i expect to get not the best rate?

Thanks

mutual fund returns

Hey all,

So I sold some property and trying to find somewhere to put the money. I've met with a few financial planners...at banks and other places...to compare their offerings against one another and against my current portfolio. In the past I have let the advisors take charge, and frankly they have done quite well, but I am looking to be more involved in the process. I have been checking reviews on the different funds advisors have suggested and have now become confused over the TTM.

I understand that TTM is the return in the trailing 12 months, but what does that return involve? Is it the total return on the investment over a year? does it just represent the dividends the fund has earned in the last 12 months? does it have any relevance to the growth in the value of the fund?

thanks!

should I be buying for extra health/dental coverage?

me - government dental plan 90% on minor service, 50% major such as crowns.
spouse - self employed

Should we be buying extra dental coverage? anyone shopped around and found the best coverage? It seems like as we get older crowns/root canals will be crazy expensive... no clue how people can afford it even with decent coverage... the quotes we been getting from CAA, bluecross, Manulife seems be cost $200/month and with min coverage.

getting quote of $1000 for a crown, and possibility root canal soon, I'm sure we will be needing more as we get older... seriously going to look into dental tourism, anyone recently done a crown or root canal in China?

Pre-Authorized Payment Lag

I have my credit card set up for Pre-Authorized payments. Noticed the payment was credited in my credit card transactions list (BMO) yesterday (September 13) but not yet drawn from my chequing account (different bank). Just noticed that I didn't have sufficient funds in the account yesterday but do today (September 14).

Will the payment bounce? (in other words, are pre-authorized payments posted on the date it was requested by the credit grantor, or on the date it finally processes by the deposit bank?)

Worried about interest fees... Thanks in advance.

Credit Card Interest

I have an MBNA card and have a quick question. Hopefully someone can shed some light.

Example, my balance is 500 and the cycle closed.

Statement generated with 500 balance, due in 21 days.

Let say I returned something , $200…now the balance is 300.

But before the due date, In the new cycle, I have spent another 300. Balance is now 600.

I try to pay everything in full so no interest. Do I still need to pay $500 before due date to avoid interest or just 300?

Thanks.

Question about being out of the country more then 6 months..

Long story short, my mother had to go to Europe for a family emergency and she was suppose to come back within 6 months but will unfortunately have to prolong the trip because the family member had a major surgery and recovery is very slow. She collect Old Age Pension and CPP - not sure if this is the right forum to ask but regarding the Old Age Pension and CPP payments, does she have to return back to Canada within 6 months (183 days) to report to the government? If so, can she file some type of paperwork online explaining the circumstances? Thanks for any help in advance.

MBNA Trueline CC

Recently applied for the MBNA true line card which seems to mimic the TD Emerald card which the interest rate adjusts based on your "credit worthiness" aka your score, was able to get 15% which isn't really the best...but for no annual fee it's better than most competition until I can get my score higher to quality for LOC anyhow what I was wondering is if anyone on here has had this card and been successful in calling them to lower the interest rate once one has a better score/paid account for up to 12 months, I called MBNA talked with 5 people who couldn't give me a clear answer

Meridian Crediti Union - 1% bonus on transfers up to $500 bonus

$

I think a targeted offer - got a call from Meridian CU offering a 1% bonus on money transferred to one of their accounts, registered and non-registered, up to a maximum of $500 (ie. $50k). For money deposited by end of November the bonus is paid mid December and for money deposited by end of January bonus paid in March. This is in addition to the underlying return of the account, I believe 1.5% annualized on their HISA.

Anyone else heard of this offer?

Best Cash Back Credit Card for Business???

$

I know this is the personal finance section but I see lots of talk about credit cards here so I figure is the best place to post.

I am looking into changing our company credit card from RBC Platinum Avion to a cash back card.
Some info:
Just need 1 main card to make payments, not afraid of annual fee if it pays off
very minimal foreign transactions, so forex not important
Charge amounts: $20-$50,000
Annual Charges: Approx. $300,000
If categories matter: #1 fuel, #2 mechanical parts $ repairs, #3 fertilisers
I have become unhappy with the travel cards since half the price of the ticket is surcharges not covered by my points.
Im just trying to get the most back from our usage.

so any suggestions would be great

Credit score not the same for all viewers

Just want to confirm that the credit score you see on equifax through their monthly system can be, depending on the situation completely inaccurate.

My equifax report stated 651 but when my mortgage broker pulled my score for my mortgage application, it showed 711. So there is truth to the matter that different types of lending score differently and the equifax consumer report seems to be far lower than typically what lenders see. Almost like they bait you to keep monitoring your score.

MBNA? Or Canadian Tire?

$

For those of you who are gung-ho about MBNA for their balance transfers, I wanted to point out that these days Canadian Tire Advantage Card seems to be offering me better deals. MBNA does offer the 0% over and over again, but their fee is frequently 2%. Canadian Tire, consistently offers 1% fee only at 0%. The disadvantage however is that its only a 6 month deal rather than 12 months, however its offered to me so regularly that this doesn't really matter. Also, for those of us with good but not fantastic credit and limited assets, Canadian Tire seems to offer much higher limits ( 20K, in my case ). I'm stuck at 5K on MBNA.

Anyhow, just a heads up to those of you who feel MBNA is your only and best option for low interest balance transfers.

Paycheck Lost, Someone found it and Cashed it in. ***Please Help***

$

Hi,

My wife employer gives a paycheck biweekly. We have a joint account. About a month ago, she received her paycheck, and I was going to cash it in on the Friday. Somewhere along the line, I lost the cheque, and so I told my wife to go to work on Monday and ask for a new cheque. At work, my wife was informed that someone had found the cheque, and cashed it in. When we asked the manager to stop payment on the cheque, she said that could do nothing about it as the money had been already paid. I find that quite hard to believe because aren't cheques put on hold for 3-4 business days before they're cashed? Moving on, I decided to get in contact with the bank. Essentially I was told they would work on it, and it would go through their fraud division. Fast forward approximately 1 month later, and nothing has been done. I've called the bank and have been told they're still trying to recover the money. What can I do in a situation like this? The paycheck had my wife's name, and employer. Not to mention, my wife's name is Indian, and I find it very hard to believe someone with the same name found it and cashed it. How can a cheque even be deposited by someone with a different name? Don't banks check this before making deposits?
