I evaluated my credit card perks and recently signed up for the Capital One Cash World card for the 1% cash back plus 50% annual cash-back bonus.
I looked at my active credit cards and have the following (along with the reason as to why I have so many cards):
HBC - used for clothes shopping at HBC
Sears - used for appliance/furniture (once a year) at Sears
MBNA Smart Cash - Personal expenses
VISA 1% (tier) Cash back - Small Business expenses
AMEX - Online Shopping
The Capital One will replace the VISA and MBNA cards for business/non-gas and groceries purposes. I might possibly eliminate AMEX (Some bad blood with AMEX and their promo department).
Now the VISA card will be dormant but it has the 2nd longest history and 2nd highest credit limit. I'm thinking of closing the card or lowering the limit. I know about keeping a long history and to maximize credit limits for the credit score but I believe too much credit cards can also hurt the credit score.
Any thoughts on how you manage these cards?
