I've been searching for my first house. It seems that more than half of realtors for the vendor that I contact are either incompetent or just don't care.
Probably half of my emails asking one or two questions about a property go unanswered. If they're trying to sell a house for a client, it would be a good idea to answer any questions from an interested party. I wonder how the client would feel if they knew their realtor wasn't answering my questions. I'd rather not get my realtor involved, who is searching for me, just for asking a simple question. But sometimes it comes to the point where I do so that he can hound them by phone to get the answer.
I've also even spoken to the receptionist at the sales office and explained to them I am interested in a house and for the realtor to get back to me. But nope! No response.
And then there's the realtors where I set up a viewing with them, only for them to ignore my confirmation emails and voice mails the day before the appt. It was then that I realized that they weren't the actual realtor for the vendor but they just had the property listed on their website. And these guys don't bother responding to me to let me know the house has been sold.
And I've also had a situation where I have driven 45 minutes, and my realtor as well, for a viewing, only to find out it's been cancelled. The vendor's realtor forgot to notify us!
And of course, have you ever read any MLS listings? Forget about the lying in the descriptions about something like a 5 minute walk to the lake when it's really 20 minutes. We all know that many realtors just straight up lie. But the spelling mistakes and typos are hilarious.
It seems like half of all the listings I read have one or more mistakes. Especially when they spell the word "seperate". Anyone can make a typo and not everyone is a good speller. But do they not use spell check? Do they not double check their own work before submitting it on the internet for hundreds to see?
I just thought that as a real estate "professional", they would want to represent their client in a professional manner, regardless of whether it affects the sale or not. I would think that a high level of professionalism would leave a more positive image of that realtor and he/she would want to avoid bad spelling or typos.
So please explain to me, are half of all realtors incompetent, or are they just lazy? Any of you have similar experiences? And I'm not talking about outright lying and fraud, but the smaller things that give realtors a bad name.
