A little back story, I’ve been with TD for 14 years and would like to stay with them as they are a great retail bank, customer service is good, their online interface is excellent as well, which is important to us.
My wife has been with Scotia for a while, she used to work for them as well so she has inherited some decent discounts since her working days (still applicable, not sure for how long).
Our mortgage is with Scotia (best rate/terms/etc) and this was a completely independent choice even though I wanted to stay with TD, but decided against them due to their collateral mortgage rules.
Here we are now, wife and I are consolidating all finances and are trying to choose between TD and Scotia. We are looking for a bank that will do the most for us in terms of waiving account fees/reducing them and I am also hoping for the possibility of getting reduced brokerage fees on their trading accounts so I don’t have to continue using Questrade.
The goal is simple, we want to pick one of the two banks for all accounts: chequing/saving/RSP/trading/TFSA/Line of Credit/2 Credit Cards to be in one place so it’s easier to manage with the least amount of fees and possibly reduced trading fees. It doesn’t matter if the mortgage is with the specific bank.
I am leaning towards TD because of the web interface which is light years better than Scotia and because they have more retail branches. I also find from a customer perspective they are willing to bend over more than Scotia is.
We are also not sure how to approach this whole scenario in terms of negotiating and getting the best package out of both. Should we go to Scotia first and ask them what their best offer is then approach TD and ask them to beat it, do it vice versa?
Thoughts/opinions? Drop both banks and go to PC Financial maybe? :twisted:
