I've recently left a job where I was contributing to a pension plan. As part of my cash-out I'm getting approx $150K that needs to be put into a LIRA. I'm a total financial newbie, but good with numbers and believe I have potential :) Basically I want low fees, reasonably simple, low risk, with obviously the best return I can get for that.
I'm open to reading suggestions, thread links (I just did a search and didn't find anything great) or specific ideas.
I spoke with an RBC advisor who thought the RBC Select Conservative Portfolio would fit the bill. The numbers sounded great but I'm aware that numbers can be made to reflect different things, especially to a newbie. I'm also aware of the different "couch potato portfolio" options and wondered what people thought of them.
As background I'm 31 years old.
Thanks in advance for any help! :)
