Employer bonus directed to RRSP (tax handling).

Hi All,

Assume I received my 2012 bonus in the first 60 days of 2013. I had the option to contribute 100% of this to the RRSP, which is what I did.
Generally an employee will withhold tax on any income but as the money was contributed directly to the rrsp this did not happen.

In other words 100% or nearly 100% of the bonus went directly into the RRSP. I say directly as reading online they should still take EI / CPP.

Anyway, at this point I received a tax receipt from the company that manages the RRSP for the full amount.

The question now is how to handle this for 2012 / 2013 taxes.

One may think, simply do nothing (as no tax was paid) but it definitely counts against the 2012 contribution room. From reading, it seems that in 2013 the employer will fill out a T4A stating the full amount of the bonus, implying I will need to pay the tax in 2013.

So I'm thinking the options are:
1) Actually claim the entire bonus against 2012s income / but will need to pay the tax in 2013.
2) State I received the bonus in 2012 but carry it over (or a portion of it) to 2013 and use it against the income hit ?
