Hi
Last year I tried Turbo Tax Standard Desktop software and liked it but since they took away free tax support I decided might as well try H&R Block Deskop software as it was half the price and comes with audit assistance.
When I posted in the hot deals section about H&R Block Desktop software being half price off alot of people said Studio Tax is free.
So I decided to try them all this year.
I have very simple tax return(T5,T4, RRSP and Medical)
Turbo Tax Premiere Online Edition - Refund $ 1,717.64
H&R Block Software - Refund $1,717.64 (Did my refund twice as for some reason on import of turbo tax file from last year brings in CNIL file that has my last years T5 amount on it yet does not effect my refund)
Turbo Tax Software - Refund $1,519.64
I was kinda shocked when I saw almost $200 refund difference seeing that I did my refund with the other software 3 times and got the same numbers each time. I printed out studio taxes return and went line by line through it and compared with H&R blocks return.
I finally found that line 364 was $0 for public transit what was kinda of shocking since I did put it in. I then went back to the wizard and saw it was $0 so I re-entered it in and finished again and still $0. I then went to Schedule 1 area and put in the amount through the form way and hit ok and again $0.
The reason why it was $0 was because I had to figure out how much my total was for the year so I used my windows calculator what has comma grouping on and I copied and pasted the number into the box which had no problem accepting it. Once you save it must get confused and just use $0 then.
I see if I try to type a comma in the box it won't let me.
Bottom line be careful people. I could have screwed myself out of $200. None of the other programs had a problem with this.
