Title insurance for mortgage free home

I was listening on the radio regarding paying off a mortgage and an advisor recommended that once your mortgage is paid off, you should spend another $200-300 to get title insurance to protect the title. Apparently the title insurance you originally purchased when you bought the home with mortgage is no longer valid once the mortgage is discharged.

Since there's alot of RFD'ers with paid off homes, just wondering if anyone can shed light on this? Is the original title insurance no longer valid? For those that paid off their homes, did you buy title insurance again?
